The Multidisciplinary Pediatric Education and Evaluation Consortium (MPEEC) provides consultations by child abuse pediatricians and medical experts for a select population of children in Chicago reported to child welfare.
The MPEEC program model is an innovative, interagency approach to support medically–informed investigations by engaging child welfare, law enforcement, and child abuse medical experts. Along with a mandated set of children that are automatically referred, MPEEC also reviews cases of other children with injuries reported to child welfare upon request from Illinois DCFS.
A landmark program
Since the inception of MPEEC in 2000, every child under three years of age reported to the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) for head, skeletal, or internal injuries has received the MPEEC response. With a collaborative model that enhances communication and coordination between medical practitioners, DCFS, and law enforcement, MPEEC enables thorough, real-time information sharing that leads to more efficient and accurate investigations.
Furthering child abuse education
As part of its mission, MPEEC child abuse medical experts provide ongoing training to child welfare, law enforcement, legal, and healthcare professionals on the medical aspects of child maltreatment.
